ABOUT ME
I was born in 1960, from Shanghai.
I am a descendant of the Pang family. My ancestral house is named Nanyin Hall, which is located at the intersection of two ferries around the Huangpu River.
At the beginning, due to the development of commercial exchanges,my family built this residence. Recently, for the purpose of cultural relics protection, the family house needs to be repaired, so I also have the opportunity to come back to re-examine this ancestral residence.
Our residence is a typical Shanghai style building, green tile white wall, carved beams and paintings, houses sitting north to south, there are 22 houses.
In the process of repairing the ancestral house, I also remembered many past things...

I also recalled that there was a osmanthus tree on the south side of the house. When it came to flowering in summer, my mother would always pick osmanthus for food in the morning, and in winter, she would also set up a pole on the beam to hang bacon. The land near the house is suitable for planting rice, wheat, cotton and rape. The harvest season is always full of laughter.

Local geographical location map

I remember my father was looking after the storefront at home at first, but since the diversion of Sanlin Port ( 1956 ) a few years ago, people have become less and less. The family also gradually declined. We also moved out of here shortly after.

The building topographic map explains the necessity of relocation
Until 2016, because the residence has been built for nearly a hundred years, and the structure belongs to the unique ''Jiaoquan'' house in Shanghai, it was approved by the district government as a cultural relics protection point.
I just found that I ignored its cultural value.
With the support of the government, the original house was rebuilt.

Comparison of style before and after

It not only retains the " dragon dance figure of seven people " on the Fangmu, the " West Chamber " drama on the furniture such as doors, windows, tables and chairs, and the green bricks in the heart of the courtyard, but also integrates modern technology to repair the structural problems such as settlement and inclination.
On the day of reopening, I stood at the window and looked at everything in front of me, my heart was full of pride and touch.
I understand that this is not only the respect for the ancestors, but also the love of the hometown. The ' inside the wall ' residence is not only my home, but also a bridge to connect the ' outside the wall ' future.
